The following notice was sent home to CMS families during the week of March 23:

Dear Families of CMS Students,

At the end of last week, area superintendents met and collectively decided that it was in the best interest of public health to keep schools closed through April vacation. Our anticipated return date is currently April 27. We were able to use last week to develop and distribute packets to each student to sustain their academic engagement for the short term closure (originally planned for 2 weeks). We also worked to develop a system of food distribution to support students and families.

Now that we know the closure will be longer than originally planned, CMS teachers are working to create digital resources and activities that can be delivered through Google Classroom. These online opportunities are expected to be up and functioning for the start of next week – some may be ready sooner but all should be ready by March 30. In addition, staff members will be making phone calls to check in with students. You may see these calls come in to the primary contact phone number as ‘Restricted.’ If we are not able to make contact, please know that we will be monitoring the school phone if you wish to contact us during this time. Teachers can be emailed directly through their district email account found on our school website –

Some questions students and parents have asked so far relate to report cards, spring sports, and make-up days. First, report cards will not be issued prior to April 27. We want teachers to spend this time working to meet the expectation of guiding students in an online format. We will revisit the report card issue as a district and will let you know when more information is available. As for spring sports and make-up days, we simply do not know at this time. The next few weeks will provide a better picture about the extent of the COVID-19 virus in our greater community. When we know more, we will be better able to make decisions related to these issues.

First and foremost, stay safe. Take care of yourself and be patient. We know that this pandemic has impacted many people in ways that we cannot yet realize. This is our time to work together as a community. For information and resources specific to CMS and RSU 64, please follow our Facebook pages (RSU 64 – Central Middle School and RSU 64).
